100% EU: keep your calls in Europe

There is a path on which your calls stay entirely in the EU: get a local number from meiti — new, or your existing one ported — and use it for everything. Telephony then runs with our carrier Twilio in Ireland, and meiti itself in Frankfurt.

The 100% EU path in three steps

  1. Get the number: "Request a local number" (on the phone page). We set up a new local number — or port your existing number to meiti. A mobile number works too.
  2. Use the number: customers call it directly — without forwarding through another provider. If you ported, it's your familiar number anyway.
  3. Call out with it: choose "meiti Call" in the call screen and pick this number under "This is what your customer sees".
Important
Don't use these if everything should stay in the EU: a verified caller ID, the "Via phone number" path, and SMS. Send after-call messages via WhatsApp instead.

What runs where

EU

Stays in the EU

Twilio region Ireland, meiti in Frankfurt.

  • Calls to your meiti local or mobile number — new or ported
  • "meiti Call" with that number on display
  • "Via phone number" when your meiti app or desk phone rings first — with that number on display
  • Incoming calls to the rented meiti number (089), forwarded ones too
US

Runs through the US

Twilio region US.

  • Calls showing a verified caller ID (your number with another provider)
  • Outbound calls "Via phone number" where meiti first rings a phone number — whatever number is shown
  • SMS

Why? A number held at meiti belongs to your account and runs in its EU region. Twilio only accepts a verified caller ID — a number held by another provider — in its US region, and a "Via phone number" call to a phone number is set up there. If your meiti app or desk phone rings first, meiti sets it up in your account's EU region. Recordings sit in the region where the call ran and are also copied to meiti.

With just the rented 089 number and call forwarding, incoming calls run in the EU too. But the 089 number doesn't call out — for the complete EU path you need your own number at meiti.
